On 25 and 26 April 2026, Abidjan hosted the 20th Congress of the African Cycling Confederation, attended by UCI President David Lappartient. Delegates unanimously approved an establishment agreement for the CAC in Côte d'Ivoire.
The 20th Congress of the African Cycling Confederation was held on 25 and 26 April 2026 in Abidjan. It was opened by the President of the Ivorian Senate, Kandia Camara, in the presence of the President of the Union Cycliste Internationale, David Lappartient, and of Mr Adama Doumbia, Director General of Sports, representing the Minister of Sports. "My country is honoured to host this important meeting," said Kandia Camara (translated from French).
A unanimous establishment agreement
The 34 countries present, out of the Confederation's 54, unanimously approved an establishment agreement for the CAC in Abidjan. It is expected to bring tax and customs advantages in particular. The Congress also asked for talks towards a headquarters agreement to begin by next year. As David Lappartient pointed out, moving the headquarters has not yet been decided: for now it remains in Cairo, and the question will be raised again next year.
The budget and the year's events
The Congress adopted a balanced budget of 345,331,000 FCFA in income and expenditure for 2026. It also endorsed the year's main events: a stronger African presence at the World Championships in Canada, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the African Championships.
A congress every year
The Congress now meets every year. "I am particularly pleased with the introduction of an annual cycle for CAC congresses," said David Lappartient (translated from French). Kandia Camara, who is also Mayor of Abobo, welcomed the choice of her municipality for a future velodrome project.
