Solidarity funds, training centres, training camps: in Abidjan, UCI President David Lappartient recalled that Africa is "by far the continent most supported by the UCI".
The CAC is one of the five continental confederations of the Union Cycliste Internationale. Its President sits ex officio on the UCI Management Committee, alongside a member elected to represent Africa.
On the sidelines of the 20th CAC Congress in Abidjan, in April 2026, David Lappartient set out this support: "Africa is, by far, the continent most supported by the UCI." He cited the solidarity funds, the funding of two branches of the UCI World Cycling Centre on the continent and training camps in Europe for the best African athletes: several million euros in all invested in the development of African cycling (translated from French).
He also recalled the principle of the relationship: the UCI does not interfere in the internal management of the continental confederations, which decide on their own organisation, but ensures that the funds it provides are properly used.
On the ground
On 9 and 10 July 2025, a UCI mission led by its Director General, Amina Lanaya, visited Côte d'Ivoire. It identified two needs: an electronic timing system, and training for riders, coaches, mechanics and referees. "We will stand by their side," said Amina Lanaya (translated from French). Two months later, Kigali hosted the first Road World Championships held in Africa.
