In 2024, Kenya hosted the CAC African Road Championships for the first time, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. According to the Principal Secretary for Sports, Peter Tum, the Kenyan government planned to spend more than 400 million shillings on the event.

In 2025, after Congo-Brazzaville withdrew at the last minute, the CAC asked Kenya, runner-up in the bidding, to take over. The championships were held in Diani, Kwale County, with a public investment of 250 million shillings.

In 2026, with Lesotho withdrawing for lack of funding, the CAC turned to Kenya again. The Sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya, proposed Kisumu, which the county welcomed. The championships' official website lists among its institutional partners the Government of Kenya, the Ministry of Sports, the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund and Kisumu County.
