The UCI Road World Championships were held from 20 to 27 September 2026 in Montréal, Canada, a year after those in Kigali, the first held in Africa. The CAC President, Dr Yao Jean-Marie Allah-Kouamé, was there: the photos in this article were taken during these Worlds.

The UCI Management Committee and Congress

As the president of a continental confederation, Dr Allah-Kouamé sits ex officio on the UCI Management Committee. It met in Montréal from 20 to 22 September, ahead of the 195th UCI Congress on 23 September.

Several of the Management Committee's decisions concern Africa:

  • in 2027, the UCI Junior Road Nations Cup will have eleven rounds, one of them in Africa;
  • the Junior Grand Final, in Varese (Italy) from 29 July to 1 August 2027, will bring together 26 teams per category, four of them African;
  • before the 2027 Worlds in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc, a one-month camp in France will host two young riders, a man and a woman, from each federation of an emerging nation.

The Congress awarded 19 World Championships from 2027 to 2034, including the first Road World Championships in India, in Pune in 2032. It also admitted the federation of Kiribati: the UCI now has 207 member federations.

Africans in the races

In the elite women's road race on 26 September, 17 riders from ten African countries started. South Africa's Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finished 19th in her last road race, and Mauritius' Kimberley Le Court-Pienaar 45th. Demi Vollering of the Netherlands won the title.

In the men's race on 27 September, South Africa's Byron Munton finished 39th. He was the only finisher among the six African riders who started the 273.4 km race, won by Brandon McNulty of the United States.
